Mental Health and Addiction qualification opens doors to life-changing career

1 in 5 New Zealanders live with mental illness or addiction (Ministry of Health, 2021). More than ever, New Zealand needs kind, caring and compassionate individuals to pursue a career in mental health and addiction support.


The number of people accessing mental health and addiction services has grown 73% over the past 10 years. (Ministry of Health, 2021)

The Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) Mental Health and Addiction Support Strand prepares graduates to make a difference in lives every day.


The journey to mental illness and addiction recovery can be bumpy, scary and unpredictable at times. Support Workers offer guidance, advice and support to their clients during this time, applying tools and strategies to foster hope and build resilience.


Support Workers play a critical role in New Zealand’s mental health and addiction sector, representing over 30% of its total workforce. They offer life-changing assistance to clients, helping them to set goals, establish a healthy daily routine and connect with supportive family and whānau.

Arise Academy offers a range of Health and Wellbeing qualifications for those looking to pursue a challenging and rewarding career in support work.


The NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) Mental Health and Addiction Support Strand supports graduates to understand mental health and addiction issues and apply strategies, interventions and tools to support recovery. This programme can be completed in one year through a combination of online learning and supervised work experience.
